Jelani McDonald led the Longhorn defense with an interception and 12 total tackles
AUSTIN, Texas — No. 19/18 Texas secured its second conference win defeating No. 7/7 Ole Miss 34-27, in front of 104,306 fans at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium on Saturday night.
With a strong defensive performance, the Longhorns (5-2, 2-2 SEC) held the Rebels to 138 yards and restricted them to a field goal in the first two quarters. This is the fewest points Ole Miss has scored in a first half since a contest against Mississippi State in 2023.
Senior Jelani McDonald led the defense with 12 tackles, seven of them being solo. He also recorded an interception and a pass breakup. Derek Williams Jr. and Graceson Littleton followed behind with eight tackles (four solo) and seven tackles (two solo) respectively, with Littleton adding a pass breakup.
Rasheem Biles and Justin Cryer added to the defensive control and tallied an interception each, Cryer's first as a Longhorn. These turnovers marked Texas' 28th game with an interception on defense since its first season in the SEC, which is tied for the most of any FBS team.
To take the lead after a 24-point deadlock, senior Arch Manning faked a handoff and took a one-yard rush into the endzone with 8:04 remaining in the contest. Manning finished with 212 passing yards, threw one passing touchdown, and ran for two scores.
Manning has now recorded his fourth career game with one or more passing touchdowns and multiple rushing touchdowns, tied for the second-most by a Texas player in the last 30 years. This also marks Manning's fifth career win as a starting quarterback against AP top 10 teams, the most of any active FBS quarterback.
Following Manning's touchdown, the Rebels field goal attempt was blocked by defensive lineman Alex January, the first of his career. January's tip returned possession to the Longhorns to set up senior Gianni Spetic with his second field goal of the game. Spetic is now 97 percent on field goals this season.
Ryan Wingo led the offense with seven receptions for 111 yards, his longest being a 50-yard catch for a touchdown in the second quarter.
The running back room supplemented the offense as sophomore Michael Terry III recorded his first collegiate touchdown, and a career-high 41 rushing yards on the day. Fifth-year Raleek Brown tacked on a season high 157 rushing yards, his first 100-yard game this year. Brown's 47-yard run in the fourth quarter was a season-long for Texas.
Up next, Texas will conclude its three game homestand facing Mississippi State at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. CT on Saturday, Oct. 31, televised on either ABC or ESPN.
